Frequently Asked Questions

  • The use of medicinal plants to support health has been our medicine for thousands of years. We have evolved with the plants around us, dependent on them for sustenance and healing. Even in today’s healthcare system, many of the commonly used drugs that are commonly come from plants originally.

Medical herbalism combines in depth study of medicinal plants and the human body in health and illness. As a medical herbalist, I am trained to take a full clinical examination which looks at the whole person in physical, mental and emotional health. I look to the root cause of disease whilst also addressing symptoms with herbal medicine.

  • What do you treat as a medical herbalist?

  • My training path to becoming a herbalist started with courses supporting women’s health notably Women’s Wisdom with Dominique Sakoilsky and Amanda Rayment. This led me to study on the professional course at Betonica and Heartwood, both leading herbal medicine schools in the UK. After 5 years study - and a baby! - I graduated with a distinction. Since then, I continue to develop my skills and broaden my experience with professional training from the best herbal teachers out there!

  • Herbal medicine is not the same as pharmaceutical medicine. As we work to get to the root of illness, it can take time and commitment from the patient, the gentle encouragement of the practitioner alongside the healing support of medicinal plants.  Health is not always a linear journey. For some, change and improvement can be almost instant. For others, they may even feel worse before feeling better as we work through the layers to health and happiness. Everyone is individual and so I work to support you in this way, listening for change and guiding you to health.

I recommend at least 3 months treatment for most people especially when working with menstrual cycles and hormonal problems. Chronic and complex conditions can take much longer.

  • Yes. It is important to work with a qualified medical herbalist who is trained to check the potential interactions between pharmaceutical medications and herbal medicine to ensure that any remedy given is safe to use. Herbal medicine can work really well to support health alongside medications.

  • Absolutely yes. As a mother, I know how important it is to be listened to and supported. Sometimes it can be hard to find the answers to questions around our children’s health. I am here to help you and your children. I love to see how children respond to the invitation to work with medicinal plants - their curiosity and instinct is always great to see. Herbal medicine is safe to use with children and I work with children and parents to find the most suitable remedies.

I welcome children in my clinic as well as workshops. I also love to go into schools to share my enthusiasm for herbal medicine with children so that they are more empowered when it comes to their own health.

  • I offer online consultations as well as in person consultations. Whilst I love seeing people face to face, this may not always be possible for you. Online consultations can be booked online and an invitation will be sent for your video consultation.

  • Herbal medicine is backed by both traditional use and knowledge  as well as clinical evidence. I use both to inform my practice and how I work with people. During the consultations, we discuss medications, contraindications as well as potential red flags.

  • I am insured to practice by Balens insurance.

  • I conform to GDPR regulation and my privacy policy is available to read here. In compliance with law, I keep all medical documents for the required number of years.
